Spring is here, the weather is warm and beautiful and I’m overflowing with happiness : ) One of my favorite things about this season is having my morning smoothie ritual on the balcony. Every year at this time, I can’t take my eyes off the stunningly beautiful blooming azalea and all the lovely flowers there. Starting the day with a healthy breakfast while enjoying this spring gorgeousness is something really special for me. And today I kicked off my day with this crazy delicious antioxidant-rich Blueberry smoothie. A simple, easy and super healthy breakfast, packed with essential nutrients!
Besides being sooo incredibly tasty, blueberries are considered as one of the highest antioxidant foods in the world. They protect our cells from damage, caused by free radicals. So let’s eat fresh blueberries as much as we can! : ) Many studies show that we can freeze blueberries without doing damage to their delicate antioxidants. Thankfully, this whole winter our freezer was stocked with homegrown blueberries, picked from my parent’s in low lovely garden. That was just perfect for our beloved smoothies and smoothie bowls routines : ) We also love picking wild blueberries with the kiddos while we go hiking at the end of the summer.
Let’s see how to make this yummy antioxidant-rich Blueberry smoothie!
Ingredients for Antioxidant rich Blueberry smoothie:
Serves 1
1 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
1 ripe banana
1 tsp. maca powder
1 tsp. hemp protein powder
1 tsp. chia seeds, sokaed
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 cup coconut water
Instructions for Antioxidant rich Blueberry smoothie:
1. Combine blueberries, banana and coconut water in a blender.
2. Blend on high speed until smooth.
3. Add chia seeds, maca powder, hemp protein powder and cinnamon, and blend for another 30 seconds.
4. Pour in a glass and serve immediately.
